An application for a Nude Dancing Club situated in the old Jaegar Bar in York St has been applied for and granted by the City and County of Swansea. However, under new regulations a ‘Sex Entertainment Venue’ license also has to be granted, and this has not happened yet. There is strict criteria applied to this, and for the first time the Gender Equality Duty can be used as an objection.

However, under new regulations a ‘Sex Entertainment Venue’ license also has to be granted, and this has not happened yet. We need your support to fight this obscene misogynistic, women hating venue from opening!

The Women’s Centre along with Swansea Feminist Network has already lobbied councillors, AMs, MPs, the Licensing Department etc against this but we need as many individuals to help as well.

The acts were; Catherine Elms, Sera (from Sera and The Elements, The Adelines and Sleepy Panda [...]]]> The Swansea Feminist Network Music Fundraiser in aid of the Centre was held on July 29th. It was a great success with just under £500 being raised! Over 200 people turned up including councillor Stuart Rice who was instrumental in supporting our application to the Council for emergency funding. The night included female musicians and singers, a feminist disco, raffles, vegan cakes and information stalls.

The acts were; Catherine Elms, Sera (from Sera and The Elements, The Adelines and Sleepy Panda Club who all gave their time for free. All of us at The Centre would like to say a big “Thank You” to everyone involved in organising the event and to everyone who supported it on the night.

We have been reliably informed that there will be another event celebrating women’s accomplishments soon.

**If you would like to exhibit any artwork, poetry, [...]]]> The Women’s Centre, in partnership with the Swansea Feminist Network is holding its annual International Women’s Day event on Thursday March 8th (10am-3pm) at Swansea University. It will be a day of workshops focussing on issues that women face around the world (trafficking, domestic abuse, honour based violence etc). There will be stalls with information and women’s artwork on show. The event is FREE and is open to all genders.
